Teenager Girl’s Body Contaminated with Hormone Altering Cosmetics Chemicals

The European Union (EU) has banned hundreds of ingredients in products for personal care, whereas; the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have banned only 11 ingredients. Cosmetics chemicals, including parabens, phthalates, triclosan and oxybenzone are carcinogenic that have been detected in the human body, alters the endocrine system which is responsible for the production of hormones.  We are exposed to these chemicals when we inhale them from sprays and powders, ingest them from the lips, and absorb them through the skin. Statistically, a woman uses approximately 12 personal care products every day, whereas, man uses an average of six daily. Exposure to the harmful chemicals in air, water, food and personal care products can cause damage due to oxidation and lead to skin irritation, inflammation, dehydration and interfere with the production, transport, breakdown, binding and elimination of hormones and thus, ultimately affects the hormonal system and homeostasis of the body. Women are the primary consumers of cosmetics, but adolescent girls are more vulnerable to the toxic assault of hormone disrupting ingredients because they are in the age of speedy reproductive advancement and though they are using much more cosmetics every day than the normal adult woman. In other words, adolescent girls are unknowingly exposing themselves to greater levels of these toxic ingredients.

If your products contain these ingredients in hair, skin, nail and other personal care products then, throw them out.

Are you applying Toxic metal to your Lips

Lipstick is a cosmetic product which is made up of wax, oil, alcohol and pigment. Wax is the key ingredient that permits the mixture to be constituted into the easily acceptable shape of the cosmetic. Oils such as mineral, caster, lanolin, or vegetable are added to the wax including fragrance and pigments which acts as preservatives and antioxidants that prevent lipstick to become rancid.

Women feel incomplete without makeup that’s why millions of women and girls apply lipstick every day without a second thought and not just once but more than 20 times a day. On an average a woman ingested or absorbed 24 milligrams of lip colour per day, whereas, women who reapply it by numerous times would ingest 87 milligrams per day.  But many don’t know about the reality that lipsticks and lip glosses may also contain lead, cadmium, chromium, aluminum, and other toxic metals. Women are not only applying their lipsticks several times a day, but they are doing this throughout their whole life span, which means that exposure to lead and other heavy metals can potentially affect their health.

Lipstick Testing Labs

Lead is a notorious metal which is a neurotoxin that can cause learning, language and behavioral complications and it can be very deadly even at small doses. No lipstick lists lead as an ingredient because the metals are ingredients, therefore, cosmetic companies are not required to list them on the product ingredient labels. Overexposure to these harmful chemicals causes several health issues like eye and skin irritation, hormonal imbalances, infertility, renal failure, stomach ulcers, cancer and also associated with toxicity in the nervous system. These chemicals can percolate into the bloodstream through skin, which can admit into the bloodstream and ultimately, damage the vital organs. In a recent study, researchers of the University of California analyzed eight lipsticks and 24 lip glosses and detected nine toxic heavy metals, including chromium, cadmium, manganese, aluminum and lead.

Precautions- Buy good quality cosmetics, keep their use minimum and try homemade lip colours to avoid health issues.

Detection at Home- Put some lipstick on your hand; rub a gold ring on this lipstick, if the lipstick colour change to black, then it contains lead.
