Due to several health benefits, milk is considered as a complete food that contains all the vital nutrients. Earlier, every person drinks the purest milk and so, extracts many nutrients from the milk. But, we cannot get the essential nutrients from the contaminated milk, whereas, drinking of pure milk is just like a dream now a day’s. Milk is lacking so many healthy nutrients and further some more nutrients are also eliminated during the processing methods in the milk dairies. Moreover, dairy cows are injected with a chemical named oxytocin, a hormone that used to increases the production of milk in cattle. Oxytocin or Pitocin injections are given to the pregnant women for inducing artificial labor, but commercially oxytocin injections are used over the cattle, two times in a day, in tabelas. After injecting the chemical hormone, the stored milk in the udder of the animal released, and giving extra liters of milk. This hormone contracts the uterus of animal causes severe pain each and every time when it is injected into the cattle’s body and its prolonged use causes neurological problems, difficulty in conception that may lead to infertility and with regular use, the cattle loses the control over udder which gets inflamed and infected with the pus and reduces the life expectancy. However, the government of India has banned the use of oxytocin injection on animals because of its several negative health issues under section 12 of Food and Drug Adulteration Act, 1960 and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals act. But the rules and regulations exist only on the papers because the milkmen, villagers, and farmers do not follow the regulations and still grabbing the profit by getting the injections from the chemist’s shops without any prescriptions of veterinary doctor and it is quite miserable in India. The injected oxytocin reaches into the human body through the consumption of milk and causes several side effects in men, women and children, such as- Early puberty in girls, Gynecomastia (female-like features in male), Hormonal imbalance in children, cardiovascular problems, including cardiac arrhythmia, increased or decreased blood pressure, premature ventricular contraction etc., irregular monthly cycle in girls and women, loss of vision, renal diseases, memory loss, breast cancer and also impotency in males.


Milk dairies do not perform this test, however; boiling before consumption is the best option in order to reduce the traces of oxytocin. To minimize the negative effects of oxytocin boiling of even pasteurized milk is recommended.

Adulteration of milk is a serious problem due to which the whole population is in a great danger. Consumers also check the presence of water by conducting the drop test. To avoid catching, the profit makers start adulteration of some cheap substances such as, formalin, urea, starch, neutralizers, detergents, sodium chloride, skim milk powder, sucrose, glucose/dextrose, hydrogen peroxide and refined oil to the watered milk to develop the proper thickness, taste, missing fats, density, and viscosity.

According to some reports, detergents found in the tested milk samples of a famous brand and now it is very important to know about the milk (a super food) that we are consuming and giving to our children in the hope of their proper growth and development. Detergents are responsible for food poisoning along with gastrointestinal complications and all the synthetic chemical ingredients disturb the functioning of different vital organs of the body by causing cardiovascular problems cancer and even death.

Is it safe for consuming pasteurized milk without boiling?

Milk is considered as a powerhouse of the vital nutrients. Its regular consumption plays an important role in the overall growth and development of healthy bones and teeth in the human body. Raw milk carries several harmful bacteria responsible for food borne illnesses like diarrhea, vomiting, stomach infection, kidney failure, paralysis attack and much more. The symptoms can be different, from person to person, that totally depends upon the type and strain of microorganisms, the amount of contamination and weakened immune systems. Infants, kids, weak peoples, old age people are more susceptible to the food borne illnesses and they even can die due to the consumption of raw milk contaminated with Brucella, Campylobacter, Listeria, Mycobacterium Bovis, Salmonella, E. coli, Shigella, Streptococcus pyogenes, Yersinia enterocolitica and much more.

That’s why maximum people used to consume boiled milk because boiling destroys bacteria along with other organisms and it also increases the shelf life of milk. Boiling of milk does not eliminate all the microorganisms but is an effective and important way of killing the spores of microorganisms. However, some nutrients are also lost during boiling of milk, especially B group of vitamins (water soluble). So, it is recommended, not to boil the milk at very high temperature for a prolonged period of time.

Pasteurization is a process that destroys the harmful microorganisms by heating milk at a temperature of 72 ̊C for 15 seconds. Pasteurization was first discovered by the French scientist Louis Pasteur in 1864, pasteurization destroys the harmful organisms responsible for the illnesses such as listeriosis, typhoid fever, tuberculosis, diphtheria, and brucellosis. So, it is unsafe for consuming unpasteurized milk, cream and other dairy products like ice-cream, puddings, yogurt, soft and hard cheese made from pasteurized milk, therefore, it is better to ask from the grocer or storekeeper about the pasteurized products.

According to some research, there is no difference in the nutritional values of pasteurized and unpasteurized milk. Pasteurized milk is not the ‘sterilize milk’; hence, there are some of the chances of survival of temperature resistant bacteria and their spores. Pasteurized milk needs the temperature of 4 ̊C for maintaining the cold chain facility storage, which assures the milk is fit for consumption until it reaches to the consumer. If the temperature raises greater than 5 or 6 ̊C, the further growth of the bacterial spores would start that reduces the shelf life of the pasteurized milk. So, it is necessary to maintain the low-temperature storage facility and further, it is also advisable to boil the milk and refrigerate it immediately for the reduction in the growth of bacterial spores in order to extend the shelf life.

Idol Immersion Polluting Indian WatersEnvironmentalists & Scientists are concerned about the water pollution caused due to immersion of Idols during festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Durga Puja Celebrations all over India. One look to assess the harmful effects of this practice has proved to be an eye opener to many. WATER is the elixir of life referred as nature, polluting it with our activities is the most devastating situation we are creating for ourselves.

Immersing idols in the rivers we treat as Gods gives a shocking evidence of how we are polluting our lakes & rivers. Festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi & Durga Puja involves processions which gathers large amount of crowd who bother little about the effects caused due to immersing idols & dumping garlands & non biodegradable waste in & near the river banks.
