Idol Immersion Polluting Indian Waters

Idol Immersion Polluting Indian WatersEnvironmentalists & Scientists are concerned about the water pollution caused due to immersion of Idols during festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Durga Puja Celebrations all over India. One look to assess the harmful effects of this practice has proved to be an eye opener to many. WATER is the elixir of life referred as nature, polluting it with our activities is the most devastating situation we are creating for ourselves.

Immersing idols in the rivers we treat as Gods gives a shocking evidence of how we are polluting our lakes & rivers. Festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi & Durga Puja involves processions which gathers large amount of crowd who bother little about the effects caused due to immersing idols & dumping garlands & non biodegradable waste in & near the river banks.

During the immersion articles such as flowers, polythene bags, foam, decorations, metal polish, plastic sheets, and cosmetic items are thrown into the water adding to the already caused damage.

Tests carried out from the samples of water collected from these banks, gives a report of these idols as a major source of contamination & sedimentation. The parameters tested during the analysis of water pre & post immersion are BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand), COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), Total Dissolved solids, Dissolved Oxygen and pH in addition to analysis of Heavy metals. Importance of Building Materials & NDT Inspection

NDT InspectionBuilding Collapse due to use of Sub standard Material is a grave around the world. In order to build a strong foundation & a accident prone structure, Quality assurance of building materials is very. The type & quality of material used for the construction must be planned in advance in order to fulfill the functions expected from them.

The building materials commonly used for construction purpose involves the use of bricks, concrete, insulating materials, tiles, steel, aggregates, cement, soil, fly ash , cast products, clay, bitumen, design mix. Not only, is it necessary to test materials used for construction of buildings, but also for Roads , Railways, Bridges & similar area in the building sector.

Some of the materials used as Building Materials are:-

Cement is considered to be the heart of concrete as without its use, any building structure remains incomplete. The cement is made to undergo a range of physical & chemical tests which is inclusive of Tensile Strength Analysis, Fineness, Drying Shrinkage, Flexural Strength, Air content, Density, Compressive strength, Soundness.

Aggregates include coarse materials used as a component of composite material. They are widely used as foundations for roads, buildings etc because of their high hydraulic conductivity value. The parameters 10% Fine Value , Alkali Reactivity , Chloride Content , Compaction Fraction ,Crushing Value , Impact Value , Los Angle Abrasion , Organic Impurities , Particle Size Distribution ,Specific gravity and water absorption , Sulphate Content are tested for studying the quality of Aggregates.
